About Bee The Future
Bee The Future is brought to you by Chris Lenz (BPharm), Sandra Hedges of the Holistic Health Hub, and Inge Austin from The Beeger Picture.
With local experts in medicine and apiculture, Bee The Future is set to educate and inspire South Africans about apitherapy, which encompasses the medicinal use of honey bee products such as honey, propolis, royal jelly, and bee venom. Historically, these products have been used to treat various ailments, including infections, inflammations, and chronic pain. Modern research continues to explore their potential benefits in areas like wound healing, allergy relief, and immune system support.

As students of nature, the wonder of honey bees and all the products they produce never ceases to amaze us. Embarking on the Apitherapy journey has been both enlightening and exciting and has so much more potential than most people could ever imagine. Harnessing the natural apothecary abilities of the honey bee to enhance human and animal health is long overdue in South Africa. We are honoured and proud to be a partner for these events and team of founders of the Apitherapy Association of South Africa under the experienced guidance of Dr Stefan Stangaciu.” Inge Austin
“As founder of The Bee Effect, I’m deeply committed to creating awareness, inspiring action, and advocating for honey bees and the vital role they play in our world. Apitherapy reveals the extraordinary gifts bees offer beyond pollination, and the Bee the Future Apitherapy Symposium is a space to explore that potential. Supporting this event reflects my mission to champion honey bees in every aspect of life—protecting their future while discovering what they can unlock for ours.”

“We at The Bardolino Artists Retreat are passionate beekeepers, permaculturists & respectful of all living brings. Our tranquil healing environment welcomes & complements Dr Stafan Stangaciu debut visit to South Africa, as he unravels & shares the holistic benefits of Apitheraphy.”
Macnut Farm looks forward to hosting Dr Stangaciu, the president of the International Federation of Apitherapy, on 17th June 2025, who will be the keynote speaker at the Apitherapy workshop. We believe in and support the multitude of therapeutic options embraced in Apitherapy and are very excited to be part of the promotion of this holistic practice, that harnesses the healing power of nature.
Macnut Farm, situated in the picturesque Assagay Valley, just outside of Hillcrest Kwazulu Natal, supports 20 to 30 hives at a time, where colonies are staged or strengthened before being installed on clients’ properties. Macnut Farm hosts bee keeping training, facilitated by Kristie Paine of Bushveld Bees. On the property is a commercial Apiary Air Therapy room (Beehive Air Therapy), with clients ranging from people with respiratory conditions through to those with mental issues such as depression, sleep disorders etc. Treatments are typically 60 minutes, but guests can book into the B&B and can elect to regulate their own schedule or even sleep there. It is completely non-invasive and the therapy room houses 5 colonies who go about their day to day activities undisturbed. Mead, honey and various bee products are also on sale.
The KZN Crane Foundation, based in the Mooi River Grassland Biome, has launched bee-related programmes to supplement their Environmental Education project and promote pollinator conservation. These include an educational beehive display and the establishment of a bee-friendly garden featuring indigenous flowering plants to support local pollinator populations. Aligning with the Foundation’s broader conservation goals, the grasslands of the Bill Barnes Crane and Oribi Reserve (surrounding the Usher Centre) are managed under guidance of Department of Agriculture and University of KZN, to enhance the grassland biodiversity, including the veld flowering plants to support the bees.
We are pleased that the API-Therapy Symposium has chosen KZNCF’s Usher Centre as their venue as it aligns with our concept of acknowledging the importance of the “Littlies” in biodiversity conservation.
